Source: press office Ais VenetoAt a time that is as critical as the present for Italy’s economy, can the wine sector represent a good job opportunity for young and more mature workers alike? This will be the question at the basis of the Conferenceorganised by the Veneto Branch of the Italian Sommeliers’ Association entitled “Professione Vino”, which is due to start at 10.00 a.m..The meeting will take place within theambit of “Il Veneto al 300 x 100”, the event in which 300 wines from 100 producers will reveal the excellence of Veneto wines to an audience of wine trade professionals and wine lovers.
During the “Professione Vino” conference, the speakers will deal with the theme from various points of view, starting off from the employment figures within the sector; the experiences of those who are carrying on a family tradition and who are taking over the reins of their companies from previous generations; an analysis of the personalities involved in the production process; and a study on the professionalism of restaurateurs and sommeliers. The common denominator of all these experiences will be wine as a choice of life.Chairman of the conference will be journalist AlbertoSchieppati, editor of “Artů” magazine, and among the speakers there will be DinoMarchi, President of A.I.S. Veneto, and AntonelloMaietta, President of A.I.S., who will offer their analysis of the profession of sommelier and to what extent this job can be attractive, especially to young people.
They will be accompanied by Piero Garbellotto, a barrel producer whose family is an excellent example of generational succession; Carlotta Pasqua, President of Agivi (the Association of Young Italian Wine Entrepreneurs) who has herself taken over part of the running of the family company; Vasco Boattoof Padua University, who will give up-to-date employment figures for the wine sector in the Veneto; the Amorim Cork company, which will explain cork manufacture and the novelties in that particular sector, and Andrea Sinigaglia, who is in charge of the Alma Wine Academy, who will talk about his experiences and those of the Academy’s students.
At the end of the conference, "Il Veneto al 300x100" will offer its audience of wine lovers and members of the trade a chance to taste the many vinous expressions of the Veneto Region. The wines on show will be the fruit of the selections carried out by the Veneto’s sommeliers in the course of their official tastings. These wines will also be featured in the first edition of the Guide to the Veneto’s top wines, which will take the name of the show itself. Distributed free to those attending the event, it is designed to act as a link between the world of wine production, that of sommellerieandthe restaurant sector in order to encourage an ever-deeper knowledge of the Veneto’s wines as well as promoting them as important local products in restaurants and among keen, well-informed consumers. This is a tool that has previously been lacking in a Region that is one of the leaders in terms of production and which, alone, is responsible for making almost 20% of Italian D.O.C. wines.
At the tasting tables, from 11.00 a.m. to 8.00 p.m., the producers will show and describe their finest wines. There will be a range of the Veneto’s gastronomic specialities to accompany the tastings. The public will also be able to attend the exciting final selections to elect the “Best Sommelier in the Veneto”, in the competition organised in conjunction with Uvive (UnioneConsorzi vini veneti D.O.C.) and Amorim Cork Italia. This initiative aims to highlight the professionalism of the Veneto’s talented young sommeliers. The two winners will be awardedthe Amorim Cork Italia Prize: a study trip to Portugal which will allow them to gain greater knowledge about cork and about Portuguese wines.
