The biogas plant of the Stalla Sociale in Monastier was inaugurated.
This power station is powered by biogas, which is a biological gas produced by the anaerobic co-fermentation of vegetable biomass (especially maize silage) and livestock manure. It can produce about 8 million kilowatts per year, which are enough to meet the energy demand of over 2 thousand families.
This structure allows to avoid production of 4,500 tons of carbon dioxide per year, that is, the same amount produced by 1,300 cars running along 20 thousand kilometres per year.
This is the first plant of its genre in the province of Treviso, and one of the main exemplars in the North-East of Italy. It was realised by MT-Energie Italia under the consultancy of prof. Pierluigi Navarotto of the Università degli Studi of Milan.
Approximately € 5 million have been invested for this project, financed thanks to a loan by the BCC di Monastier e del Sile. The plant construction began in the autumn of 2008 and was completed in November 2009.
Many authorities including the president of the Provincia di Treviso Leonardo Muraro, together with farmers and citizens, attended the inauguration.
